In a hot climate, kulfi was once a rare royal sweet; over time it became a people's favorite with dozens of variations.

Kretek are Indonesian clove cigaretes made with crushed clove and spices. They first appeared in the early 20th century on the island of Java and quickly became a symbol of local culture: aromatic, with the distinctive crackling sound when smoked hence the name "kretek," imitating the noise). Clove not only gives a rich, spicy flavor but also creates a light numbing efect on the lips and palate. Over time, kretek spread beyond Indonesia and gained popularity in India as well.
